City Hoops Summer Camps ‏ 2012

The first week of the school summer holidays was busy for the Club as the City Hoops Summer Camps were on at Holy Rood High School and Portobello High School.

The morning sessions at Holy Rood were for people at Primary School and 30 players enjoyed 4 days of basketball coaching from Janie McBrierty, Niall Mackle, Annie Rowan, Holly Gordon, Ciara Purves and Shannon Purves, ably assisted on various days by Alex Ferguson, Robyn Love, Hansine Marshall and Derek Ferguson.

The last day saw the finals of the games that had been played throughout the week with the very exciting final going into overtime before the Basketball Beasts took the winning shots and the glory!

The afternoon sessions again were fully booked so 30 players were put through their paces by Steven Dickson, Jamie Malcolm, Niall Mackle, Annie Rowan and Lauren Walker.

The players were videoed shooting and then had their technique reviewed by Annie and guest coach Garreth Lodge.

The last day of this camp also saw some drama with Emma Watson carted off to hospital after turning her ankle, thankfully it was a sprain and after some rest and TLC she will be back playing.

Many thanks to all the coaches and the attendees for making these camps so successful.

City Hoops Summer Camps ‏ 2012

This summer sees City of Edinburgh Basketball Club and Active Schools continue with their very successful City Hoops Basketball Camps.

The camps are open to club members and non-members alike, will feature coaching from some of the best coaches in the country and will be a chance for players to learn to play basketball or to work on improving their game.

There will be 2 camps, one for players who will be in Primary 4 - Primary 7 after the holidays and one for players who will be in High School after the holidays.

The Primary School camp will be at Holy Rood High School from 10am to 12noon and the High School one will be at Portobello High School from 1pm to 4pm.

Both camps will be held from Monday 2nd July to Thursday 5th July and will cost £20.

Please email cityofedinburgh@gmail.com for more information and an application form.

City Hoops Easter Camp ‏ 2012

This Easter holidays, the Club ran two Easter Camps in conjunction with Active Schools.

Numbers were limited due to having to use the small halls at Holy Rood High School in the morning and the small hall at Portobello High School in the afternoon, however we still had nearly 40 people over the 2 camps.

We've had fantastic feedback about these camps both from the attendees and from Active Schools, so well done to all the coaches.

Many thanks to Janie McBrierty, Derek Ferguson, Nicola McBrierty, Matt Wingate and Emma Brady who ran the Primary School camp and to Steven Dickson, Neil Rowan and Kara Gillies who ran the High School camp.

Active Schools and City of Edinburgh Basketball Club are running 2 Easter Camps this year from Monday 2nd April 2012 to Thursday 5th April 2012.

No previous basketball experience is necessary for the Primary session and all Primary 5 to Primary 7 pupils are welcome.

The High School sessions are aimed at boys and girls who have either been training/playing with their school team or have simply enjoyed basketball in PE and want to take it further - perhaps with a view to playing club basketball in the future. The camp is not aimed at current club players.
